Unfortunately, a new mall moniker was unable to reverse the downward spiral the complex had been in since the mid-1990s. The Boston Store became the first anchor to close down, in March 2000. Prange's (which had been rebranded by Younkers) went dark in July 2004. J.C. Penney, seen above, pulled up stakes in October 2005. The final inline stores were shuttered in February 2006.

The old Boston Store was renovated into BayLake City Center, a banking office complex, in 2004-2005.

The bulk of the PORT PLAZA / WASHINGTON COMMONS mall was razed in mid-2012. Schreiber Foods built a new World Headquarters & Global Technology Center on the cleared site. The new complex included a 5-story office tower, laboratory and pilot plant.
