A bit of background here. Following the introduction of television in the late 1940s, the major movie studios began to worry. All of the for-free programming -in the convenience of one's own living room- could result in greatly-reduced box office receipts. To combat the trend, big-budget -epic-type- Technicolor films are being produced, in wide screen and with stereophonic sound.
