The name of the complex had been changed to NORTHLINE MALL in 1972. The facility remained unchanged -structurally- until the late '90, when a vacant Joske's was replaced by the Magic Johnson Northline Mall 12 (in gray). By the time of this 1998 plan, the center was well past its prime. Montgomery Ward has downsized into its first level (and would soon shut down completely).

NORTHLINE MALL continued its downward spiral. In 2005, plans got underway to demall the site and build an open-air, power plaza. Known as NORTHLINE COMMONS, it would be opened in phases, as the mall was slowly being demolished.
