NORTHWOOD MALL had a short life as a retail-based venue. Within 2 years of its completion, it faced a formidable rival, TALLAHASSEE MALL.
In the typical big fish swallowing the small fish scenario, TALLAHASSEE MALL, which had put the hurt on NORTHWOOD MALL in 1971, was usurped by the superregional GOVERNOR'S SQUARE, which opened in 1979.

After being bested the two bigger & better Tallahassean shopping centers, NORTHWOOD was repurposed as an office complex. Known as NORTHWOOD CENTRE, it was re-dedicated in 1989. Above, we see a current snapshot of the office mall's interior.
