Purple Pickle Restaurants were originally a Detroit-based chain. The corporate headquarters was moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1969, a year before a store opened at POMPANO FASHION SQUARE. By 1971, the chain operated seventeen units in Michigan and Florida.

The phenomenal development of western Broward County during the 1970s usurped commercial centers in the county's eastern environs. As a result, POMPANO FASHION SQUARE was in decline by the early 1980s. An interior renovation was done between March and November 1985, with the shopping hub renamed POMPANO SQUARE.
