A Food Court (shown in dark gray) was installed in existing mall space in 1986. 4 years later, a rival shopping mall opened in nearby Springfield. This prompted the owners of VALLEY RIVER CENTER to expand their property. A Seattle-based The Bon Marche came on board, as a fourth anchor, in August 1990. It connected to a new Northwest Wing. The mall proper now spanned 1,044,400 leasable square feet.
