The Ice Chalet, on the first level of LLOYD CENTER. Ice rinks were common in America's early malls and were a feature at shopping hubs such as Long Island's ROOSEVELT FIELD, LA's TOPANGA PLAZA, The Bay Area's SUNVALLEY CENTER and Houston's GALLERIA. Today, only the rinks at LLOYD CENTER and The GALLERIA remain. The other malls cited removed theirs during renovations done in the 1970s and '80s.

LLOYD CENTER had -and has- 3 levels. The first was originally utilized for a parking deck, the Ice Chalet and ground floors of the larger stores. The second level of the mall, seen here, was devoted entirely to retail and restaurants. The third housed office suites.
