After dominating the Greater Columbus retail scene for a decade, COLUMBUS SQUARE faced a formidable retail rival. A keeping-up-type renovation concluded in July 1976. The project built an East Wing, which included twenty-one new stores. One of these was a Columbus-based Kirven's.

In the year 1990,  several changes (in medium gray) have been made at  COLUMBUS SQUARE MALL. Larger store spaces -for a motion picture theater, drug store and supermarket- have been carved up. The Woolworth has also been substantially downsized. There were now ninety-three stores and services in the mall.
