A PHILANTHROPIC END
James Rouse retired from the presidency of the Rouse Company in 1979, although he retained chairmanship on its Board of Directors. From this point, his life became dedicated to promoting the urban renewal concepts so close to his heart. Bill Clinton awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in September 1995. Mr. Rouse passed away in April 1996.
