In 1990, the northwest corner of the mall was expanded to accommodate a new Phar-Mor Drug. 3 years later, Ohio's Glimcher Realty Trust acquired GRAND CENTRAL MALL. In early 1996, they embarked on a massive renovation of the property. A new multiplex cinema and Food Court were installed in the South Wing and a fourth anchor was added.
In a circa-2014 physical layout nothing new has been built, but a few major stores have changed. The Phar-Mor chain went bust in 2002, taking the GRAND CENTRAL store with it. Steve & Barry's opened in the space in 2006, but closed in 2008. Dunham's Sports moved in in 2009. Proffitt's was rebranded by the Belk chain in 2006.
