The CENTER had officially become a MALL by the time its west end addition was dedicated, in 1984. J.C. Penney had been added, along with seventeen inline stores. CAPITAL HILL MALL now housed 250,000 leasable square feet.

In early 2001, the shopping hub embraced the internet, which (through online shopping) would eventually contribute to its demise.

By the time of this circa-2007 layout, CAPITAL HILL MALL was in a downward spiral. Just thirty of its forty-two tenant spaces were leased. Dillard's, who had assumed the Hennessy's spot (and then expanded it into adjacent store space) would close for good in 3 years.
