A circa-1978 site plan depicts Edward J. DeBartolo's second Pinellas County shopping mall. In its original incarnation, it was 329,000 square feet smaller than TYRONE SQUARE, its sibling center in St. Petersburg. In its early days, PINELLAS SQUARE was promoted as "The Suncoast's newest retailing showplace." The newness would wear off rather quickly.
