In January 2017, the prospects for EASTLAND CENTER appeared grim, indeed. Macy's announced that they would be pulling up stakes. The store, in business under various nameplates since September 1957, went dark in March of 2017. This shuttering was followed by those for Target (February 2018) and Burlington (Coat Factory), which went dark in April of the same year.

Finish Line was one of the seventy-seven stores still in operation at the mall as of mid-2018.

By August 2021, the occupancy rate of EASTLAND CENTER was at an anemic fifteen percent. Tenants such as Kay Jewelers had closed their doors. The few remaining operational stores shut down in January 2022.
