The mall's original Center Court Fountain. The Woolworth 5 and 10
went out of business in early 1994.

One of many classic mall and retro retail internet sites, the MALL HALL OF FAME is a "Mid-mod" mall museum, covering shopping centers of America's mid-20th century (1950-1979). There are short articles, a few photos, and at least one physical layout drawing for every mall inducted. Please feel free to post any additional info you may be aware of. Thanks much.

Thank you for this entry. The pic of West Shore Plaza's Center Court Fountain brought back a beautiful memory I have with my paternal GRandmother. There were actually 3 other fountains at this mall during this time - a simple spray ring in front of Penneys, a dandelion in front of Maas Brothers, and a blue glass post-modern water sculpture in front of Robinsons (now Sears)in the east mall wing which opened in 1976.
Anonymous,
Thank YOU very much for perusing and posting on the MHOF.
Your mention of the ORIGINAL Robinson's of Florida (in the Dillard's/Sears anchor store) was especially noteworthy. I strive for accuracy in my histories of these classic malls.....and assistance like yours helps to set the record straight.
So...This short-lived Robinson's of Florida location apparently opened in the mid-1970's. The Hillsborough County Tax Assessor site indicates that the actual store building was constructed in 1974.
Wikipedia sez that the ROF chain was acquired by Dillards in 1991.
I rewrote a part of the existing WESTSHORE PLAZA article to include info about the original Robinson's which became a Dillards and then a Sears.
Thanks again for the word-up.
Cheers,
I love the tall ceiling!!! They don't make them like that anymore.
