A Food Court (in dark gray) was installed in 1986. 4 years later, a rival mall opened in nearby Springfield. This prompted the owners of VRC to expand their property. A Seattle-based The Bon Marche came on board, as a fifth anchor, in August 1990. The mall now spanned around 921,000 leasable square feet and housed 102 stores. Free parking was provided for 5,000 autos.
