By the early 1960s, STANFORD CENTER had third and fourth anchor department stores. A 2-level Macy's California had joined the retail roster in October 1961, followed by a 3-level Saks Fifth Avenue, in August 1963. The Saks store was a freestanding structure situated across the street from the mall proper.
