The southwestern Vermont shopping hub was anchored by Montgomery Ward and a Zayre discount mart. Both held grand openings in the fall of 1974. Inline stores opened during 1975. This RUTLAND MALL logo montage features trademarks of nine charter tenants.

An in-mall twin cinema -The Theatre Studio I & II- was inaugurated in July 1975.
