As incredible as it may seem, Georgia's first enclosed malls were not built in -or near- Atlanta. The first opened just outside of Macon in September 1961. The second, COLUMBUS SQUARE, was dedicated in March 1965 and is seen above. As a matter of note, NORTH DEKALB CENTER, Greater Atlanta's first interior mall, opened for business in July 1965.
