By the early 2000s, SUMMIT PLACE was on the skids. The mall lost Montgomery Ward (in 2001), Kohl's (in 2009), Macy's (in 2010), J.C. Penney (in 2010) and Sears (in 2014). All inline stores had closed in 2009.

The abandoned mall was condemned in 2014. The bulk of the deteriorating complex was razed in May 2019. We see the newly-cleared mall site in this snapshot.
