Montgomery Ward served as the west anchor of LEWISTON CENTER for 17 years. The store was replaced by a Washington State-based Lamonts in 1984, which closed in 1995. Fresno-based Gottschalks assumed the vacant store in the year 2000.

The demise of the Gottschalks chain, in early 2009, resulted in the mall's west end anchor space sitting idle once more. This time around, it would take over 5 years to fill the vacancy.
