PINELLAS SQUARE became a victim of the over-malling of Tampa Bay. A downward spiral was well underway by 1993. The Simon Property Group, who inherited the struggling complex as part of its 1996 DeBartolo merger, quickly shed the property. The loan lender assumed ownership and embarked on a renovation and repositioning in 1997. The mall was renamed PARKSIDE in 1998.
