The original mall was only in existence for 20 years. By the turn of the 21st century, it had run its course and was being bulldozed. Only the Filene's Basement building (in black) was left standing. A TARGET discount mart and block of three inline stores were built. The old Filene's Basement was reconfigured as a HomeGoods store. The demalling was completed in 2001.
