The mall was expanded between 1972 and 1983. A West Wing extension (
medium gray) was completed in 1973. A new Liberty House opened in 1974. It eventually morphed into the Frederick & Nelson seen here. A Northeast Wing (
dark gray) was dedicated in 1981. It brought Sears into the mall. Nordstrom was enlarged in 1983 (
light gray). The complex now covered 1,400,000 leasable square feet and contained 130 stores. For a time, it was the largest mall in the Pacific Northwest.
The TACOMA MALL
Food Court was installed in a vacant Lucky Stores space. The culinary complex opened in May of the year 2000.
