Promoted as "a new realm of shopping possibilities" the 20 million dollar SOUTHWYCK CENTER housed over 100 retail spaces. Its Center Court was covered by a large plastic panel dome.

Noteworthy as the first 7-screen motion picture venue in the cosmos, the Southwyck 7 Theatres opened the day after the mall was officially dedicated. An eighth screen was installed in the mid-'70s. A second mall-based movie house -the Southwyck 3 (a.k.a. Southwyck Art Cinema)- opened in 1985.
