Welcome to the largest mall and retail history site on the internet. The MALL HALL OF FAME is a vintage shopping mall scrapbook. Its focus is on shopping complexes built -in the USA- between 1946 and 1979. Don't forget to visit our four Shopping Mall Memory Lanes, which transport you through time to a mall in 1956, 1963, 1970 and 1977!

The mall was renovated and expanded northward in 1983-'84. A freestanding Thriftway Food & Drug was built. The original in-mall store was reconfigured as The Village of Beechmont, with nineteen boutiques and bistros. A Gold Circle discount mart was also added to the complex. Note: Mabley & Carew and Shillito's were rebranded in 1978 and 1982, respectively.

As part of the 1983-'84 redo, each mall entrance was rebuilt with a 4-section Omni Hub Space Frame.

By the time of a 1997 plan, the two original anchor stores have been rebranded again. Gold Circle has gone through two nameplate changes before ending up as the Big Kmart depicted here. Competition from EASTGATE MALL and KENWOOD TOWNE CENTRE have sent BEECHMONT MALL into a downward spiral. Only a demalling will stop its decline.
