NORTHTOWN was enclosed in 1983. Another major renovation was done between 1989 and 1991. Sears relocated to a new store. The original building was demolished, with Mervyn's, Penney's and Troutman's Emporium taking its place. An upper level of retail was also added. Although the ground floor depicted here is referred to as the "Lower Level" there is also a "Downstairs" floor beneath it. The complex now houses around 943,100 leasable square feet and 158 stores and services.
