Big Kmart at EL MONTE CENTER morphed into the Sears Essentials seen here in the spring of 2005. This store lasted until early 2012. In May of the same year, it re-opened as a Sears Outlet. That store closed for good in early 2017.

Adjacent to the Sears Outlet was Dearden's, a home furnishings store.

The original mall structures were given a 10 million dollar renovation and expansion in 2004-2005, which included the installation of a Longo Lexus dealership (in the old Sears) and construction of a multilevel parking garage. In the early 2020s, EL MONTE CENTER has been separated from the old mall structure -now auto dealerships- by a tree barrier. Stores and services include Big 5 Sporting Goods, Dearden's and Denny's.
