The first major renovation of IRVING MALL was done in the early 1980s. A West Wing was built, which included two anchor department stores. The logo seen above was introduced as part of the remodeling.

Northern California's Mervyn's chain expanded exponentially during the early-to-mid 1980s. An IRVING MALL store was dedicated, as part of the new West Wing, in the fall of 1983.

In a circa-1984 IRVING MALL site plan, the new bi-level West Wing is indicated in medium gray. A Dillard's department store has just opened. It is accompanied by a second multiplex cinema (the IV-V-VI & VII) and an adjacent Food Court. The shopping hub now spans over 1 million leasable square feet. NOTE: the Titche's store morphed into a Joske's branch in 1979.
