Bridgeport, Connecticut's D.M. Read (a.k.a. "Read's") anchored the south end of the fully-enclosed shopping hub. The store encompassed 3-levels and 220,000 square feet. One of its many features was the Jonathan Trumbull Restaurant.

In its original state, the double-decked retail center encompassed approximately 750,000 leasable square feet and provided free parking for 5,000 autos. The 12 million dollar complex was located adjacent to the Connecticut 15 / Merritt Parkway highway. This thoroughfare had opened to traffic between 1938 and 1940.
