In 1954, WESTGATE CENTER encompassed around 511,000 leasable square feet and contained forty-four stores and services. It was surrounded by a "sea of parking," with space for 3,600 autos. WESTGATE was one of the first shopping hubs in the nation to feature two anchor department stores. Other bi-anchor contemporaries would have been Yonkers, New York's CROSS COUNTY CENTER and Chicagoland's PARK FOREST PLAZA.
