The Bayou City's ninth mall-type shopping center was developed simultaneously with an identical complex in Houston's southeastern environs. NORTHWEST MALL and ALMEDA MALL were roughly the same size and shared many of the same stores. However, the twin centers did not share the same logo. This graphic, representing the original NORTHWEST MALL logo, was created by -and for- the Mall Hall of Fame.
Houston-based Foley's opened their third branch in October 1966. Known as Foley's Almeda-Genoa, it would anchor ALMEDA MALL when that facility was completed 2 years later. Foley's Northwest, the chain's fourth branch, opened in July 1967. It anchored NORTHWEST MALL, which was dedicated in October 1968.
