SNOW HEIGHTS CENTER was rebuilt as an enclosed facility in the late 1960s. This ad, from November 1969, promotes THE MALL as "the ONLY heated and air-conditioned mall in New Mexico." However, the enclosed LORETTO DE LAS CRUCES complex had been dedicated in April 1966, over 3 years before.

THE MALL was anchored by a (104,000 square foot) Woolco, which was the chain's ninety-second United States store. In addition to the standard discount mart fare, the Albuquerque Woolco sold large appliances. There was also an attached -6-bay- Auto Center.

The shopping hub's tenure as THE MALL was short-lived. By 1970, it was being promoted in print ads as (the) "Mighty Mall." The official name was not changed...at least for the time being.

Our second physical layout depicts THE MALL of 1970. The big stores of the day were the aforementioned Furr's supermarket and Woolco, as well as Furr's Cafeteria, Hancock Fabrics and Yonemoto's. THE MALL covered around 266,000 leasable square feet and housed twenty-six stores. Free parking was provided for 1,800 autos. A Foodway grocery, north of the mall proper, would begin business in August 1971.
