In January 1988, So-Cal's Longo Toyota opened for business in what had been the inline store section of SEARS CENTER. The new auto dealership featured 104 service bays and fifty-four body repair stalls.

Sears shuttered their original mall store in 1984. Its building was assumed by a HomeClub home improvement center in 1985, which morphed into the HomeBase seen here in 1991. By this time, the complex was being promoted as EL MONTE CENTER. A
Northwest Wing (in dark gray) had been added in 1987. Its anchor, a Tianguis specialty grocer, was shuttered in 1993. Big Kmart opened in the space in 1995.
