The southern end of the shopping center site was developed in the 1960s and '70s. In 1974-1975, vacant Ohrbach's and Barker Brothers buildings were gutted and rebuilt into an enclosed mall, which surrounded a 4-plex cinema. The new LA MIRADA MALL included a 10-bay Fast Food Area. In all. there were 635,400 leasable square feet, 130 stores and services, and free parking for 6,000 autos.

A detail view of LA MIRADA MALL. Of all the shopping center floor plans I've seen, this one is the weirdest. The "figure 8" configuration was disorienting to shoppers. Moreover, one had to step outside to get to both anchor stores. This "you can't get there from here" layout probably caused the mall to fail. It was remarketed, as the LA MIRADA MALL SPECIALTY CENTER (a prototype outlet mall), in 1980. This also failed to catch on.
