Above we have a dual image postcard pic of the original 3.5 million dollar mall. Nameplates for (S.H.) Kress, Zale's Jewelers, White's, Western Auto and Safeway are plainly visible. Hovering in the background is a sign proclaiming the mall's J.C. Penney.

In a circa-1963 aerial view we see the "weather-conditioned" complex and its shadow anchor Sears (in the upper left). This freestanding store predated SUNSET CENTER by nearly 3 years. J.C. Penney (in the lower right) would anchor the center for over 25 years.
