Saks & Company merged with Gimbels Brothers in 1923. The existing Saks store would be operated as Saks-34th Street. A new -more upscale- division used the address of its first store as its corporate moniker. Saks Fifth Avenue's Manhattan flagship rang up its first sale in September 1924.
