By 1976, there have been several mall modifications. The Henke & Pilot grocery was rebannered, as a Kroger, in 1966. In 1971, J.C. Penney relocated into a larger, full-line store. Moreover, the mall was now adjacent to the "West Loop" of the Interstate 610 freeway, which had opened to traffic in mid-1964.
