The original MEMORIAL SHOPPING CITY was built in three stages. The first consisted of a freestanding Sears and Weingarten's supermarket (1964). A fully-enclosed mall (in medium gray) was completed in 1966. Montgomery Ward, and an extended North Wing (in light gray), opened in 1972. The complex now spanned over 700,000 leasable square feet.

By the mid-1970s, the retail hub had been expanded for a second time. An East Wing and Foley's department store were added. In 1977, a Lord & Taylor was dedicated on the west side of the center. The mall now encompassed around 1.3 million leasable square feet and had parking spaces for 6,500 autos.
