A commemoration of the grand opening of the "Shopping Showplace of Florida." This occurred in October 1962. In the beginning, DADELAND was jokingly referred to as "Deadland", due to its location in the southern hinterlands of Miami. Little were detractors to know that, by the 1980s, the center would be one of the most successful shopping centers in the nation.
