The 1980s remodeling was unsuccessful. AVENTURA MALL took the wind out of the sails at MALL AT 163rd STREET, in 1983. J.C. Penney moved to AVENTURA, soon followed by Burdines. MALL AT 163rd STREET was reconfigured -again- in 2004-2005. This time, the eastern third of the complex was razed, with the remaining mall totally remodeled. Home Depot and Wal-Mart now anchored the hybrid enclosed and open-air power plaza.
