This early 2000s photo shows the pristine state of the original section of the mall and its late '60s, "Mid-Mod" decor. In a way, it was fortunate that the shopping hub fell upon hard times so early in its history, else all of these design features would surely have been smeared over with gaudy '80s and '90s "Post Modern" embellishments.

A parting view of the Southwest Wing. The fountained court area seen here linked the new addition with the original, circa-1969 structure. After years of decline, the entirety of SOUTHTOWN MALL was bulldozed in the summer of 2004.

SOUTHTOWN was always overshadowed by GLENBROOK CENTER, which opened in 1966. The name of the facility was changed to GLENBROOK SQUARE in 1980. After several renovations and expansions, the mall encompasses over 1.2 million leasable square feet. It was -and is- the preeminent Summit City shopping hub.
