NORTHWEST MALL, circa-2013. Most of the east parking area has been gobbled up by the construction of High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on the US 290 freeway. The adjacent Foley's / Macy's building has been vacant for years, but an antique store is in operation in the first level of the old J.C. Penney. The shopping center was officially shuttered in March 2017. It is likely that it will be redeveloped as a grocery-anchored power center.

In early 2018, it was announced that a portion of the mall site could be used for the southern terminal station on the prospective Texas Bullit Train. The 240-mile high-speed railway would initially link Dallas and Houston and use cars similar to those on Japan's Shinkansen system.
