Traveling forward in time 20 years, we see a trainset on "Bawlmer's" Metro subway. The heavy rail transit line began revenue service in November 1983 and included a station adjacent to MONDAWMIN MALL.

The Sears building, vacated in early 1973, was sectioned into inline stores (in dark gray). This new mall within a mall, dubbed Metro Plaza, made its debut in the spring of 1974. The Rouse company renovated the remaining interior of the mall during 1985, adding several new stores. At the end of the remodeling and repositioning, MONDAWMIN and Metro Plaza contained ninety-five stores and services, with parking for 2,500 autos.

An early 2000s interior view shows the mall's iconic Center Court, fountain and circular staircase. Over the course of several renovations, said staircase has never been removed.
