In 1982, what was -most likely- the first shopping mall-connected Wal-Mart opened at MANOR EAST MALL. The (83,900 square foot) store would be in operation for around 13 years. Britts, which had anchored the north end of the original mall, closed in July 1976. J.C. Penney assumed its space in November of the same year.

A latter-day view of the mall's west-facing facade, probably taken around the turn of the 20th century. Montgomery Ward, in the center, had closed for good in 1997. A Hastings Entertainment superstore has inhabited the old Kroger space for a number of years.
