The WONDERLAND Wards was among the chain's first shopping center-format stores. Up to this time, Wards units had always been freestanding structures, typically located in downtown areas. The WONDERLAND operation was the largest store in the chain (that is, until the MISSION VALLEY store opened, in San Diego, in February 1961).
