Ruby's World Of Tomorrow Diner, at the center of the mall. Its decor was based upon the architecture of the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair. That's a Trylon on the left. The restaurant closed for good in 2018.

Meanwhile, Oz-based Westfield bought into the MISSION VALLEY mall in 1994 and established full ownership in 1996. A 3-year-long renovation concluded in the following year. Five northeast store blocks were rebuilt into large big box stores and a movie megaplex added to the front facade. Moreover, the mall was connected into the San Diego Trolley light rail network. A new name was bequeathed in late 1998; WESTFIELD SHOPPINGTOWN MISSION VALLEY.

The Target at WESTFIELD SHOPPINGTOWN MISSION VALLEY took over the old Montgomery Ward space in July 2002.
