Revenue service commenced on Greater Minneapolis' Hiawatha Line light rail route in June 2004. The initial Warehouse District-to-Fort Snelling segment extended for 8 route miles and serviced twelve stations. The name of the line was changed to accommodate additional transit routes added to the original guideway. Hence, the Hiawatha Line became the Metro Blue Line in May 2013.
