A roofing renovation of LANDMARK CENTER was proposed in the late 1970s, but it would take 10 years for the project to get underway. An amended renovation plan was announced in 1987. A three-level interior mall, depicted in the rendering above, would be built.

Demolition was underway by 1988. The open mall was bulldozed, leaving its three anchor department stores standing.
