The Liberty Tree sculpture was created for the New England Pavilion at the New York World's Fair of 1964-'65. The 23-foot-tall, silver aluminum "tree" was crafted by Cambridge artisan Albert A. Surnam. After the fair, it was moved to the Boston Common. It was relocated again in 1972, when it was installed in Center Court at the new LIBERTY TREE MALL. Today, it stands in a Boston area park.
