A circa-'59 physical layout. At the time, the mall had two
anchor stores and a supermarket. A Market Level, beneath
the Colonial and Plaza Level Court, included a bowling alley.
The mall's first Theatre opened on this level in 1963. There
was (is) also a subterannean, sub-level parking deck that has
never been utilized.

Hi! I am currently researching a disappearance that occurred at Lennox in the mid-60s (Mary Shotwell Little). I'm intrigued by this parking level that has never been utilized, since I've been shopping at Lennox my whole life. Do you know about where it is located?

(There's this whole thing about her car disappearing for a short of amount of time. If it simply disappeared into a not well known parking deck...it could explain somethings)

Tracie,

I have never -physically- been in the underground parking deck at LENOX. I was told about it by Atlantan Stan Malone, who was manager of the Lenox Square Theatres back in "the days".

The theatres, which operated (in various incarnations) between 1963 and 2003, were situated on the "Market Level" of the mall.

In the early years, LENOX had three levels; (lower to highest) "Market", "Plaza" and "Mall". A fourth Level (the "Upper Level") was added to the Rich's-Davison's......make that Macy's-Bloomingdlale'......part of the mall in the mid-1990s.

The Market Level was where the Theatres were located. I believe that they were created out of space originally a part of the underground parking deck.

Stan Malone says that the underground parking deck was probably never used as a parking facility. The space still exists...wayyy back in the unseen areas of the mall.....accessible from the lowest level of the mall, which is entered from the small outdoor parking area off of East Paces Ferry Road, at the back end of the mall.

I believe that the underground parking deck would be down below present-day stores such as American Eagle Outfitters and Banana Republic.

I hope that this has been helpful.

Thanks for perusing and posting.

Happy holidays,
